Fuel Efficient Compact Excavators Prove FT4 Efficiency Can Come in Small Packages

John Deere’s newest compact excavators have what it takes to provide a reliable, seamless approach to meeting non-road emissions standards for EPA Final Tier 4(FT4)/EU Stage IV.

The 50G and 60G employ field-proven cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) for reducing NOx, and a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) to reduce PM. The DOC reacts with exhaust gases to reduce carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and some PM while the DPF traps remaining PM.

We’ve been able to meet emission standards while maintaining power, reliability and ease of operation. And our new G-Series Excavators are even more fuel-efficient. In economy mode, the 50G has a 10-percent increase in fuel economy over the previous 50D model, and the 60G has a six-percent increase over the 60D.

There are no impacts to machine operation under normal operating conditions. Ash-removal service is required on the DPF every 3,000 hours and can be achieved with a simple exchange through your Deere dealer.

Clearly, despite their compact size, the G-Series compact excavators have no trouble meeting FT4 standards and saving fuel, while maintaining power and ease of operation on the jobsite.
